These are the updates we received between our May 2021 update and August 3. Congrats, all!
Lisa K. Buchanan won first place for “The Suicide Hotline Voice Says My Feelings are Normal” in the 2020 Flash Essay Contest at Sweet: A Literary Confection. She also published “In the Company of My Loving Family” in New Flash Fiction Review.
Pietra Dunmore’s short story, “Nobody Makes It Big In Philly,” is published in The Best Short Stories of Philadelphia.
In June, Yolande House was a featured reader in Toronto’s Emerging Writers Reading Series. You can watch the recording here. Her latest creative nonfiction essay, “Another Secret,” was published earlier this year in the Humber Literary Review (8.2).
Joanne M Lozar Glenn published three flash CNF essays recently: “Climacteric” in Hags on Fire (Issue 2: Winter Solstice 2020), “The Street Remembers, or How She Became a Writer” in the anthology Neighborhood Voices (Literary Cleveland and the Cleveland Public Library, Fall 2020), and “Accounting” in the Journal of Compressed Creative Arts (Matter Press, April 17, 2021) as part of its “Topical” series.
DW McKinney published a new essay, “Fixed,” in the June issue of Nurture: A Literary Journal and an essay, “Returning to the Earth,” in the annual issue of Full Bleed. McKinney was also awarded the “My Time” Fellowship for Parents by the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow.
Rebecca Nakaba published her debut short story “The Mother” in the June 28 issue of Joyland Magazine.
Dorothy Rice published two new essays: “2020: The View from Suburbia” in decomp’s e-zine #2 (May 2021); and “When Your Contract Expires and Your Publisher Gives You Your Book Back” on the Brevity blog (May 14, 2021)
Catherine Young’s ecological memoir piece, Smoke was published in About Place and her essay for the deep love of place, The Crystalline Bed of St. Peter was published in Still Point Arts Quarterly. Find her writings and podcasts here.
