Contributor Updates: January 2022

We’re always pleased to share updates from our family of contributor-alumni and HippoCamp presenters. Here’s what we’ve collected between our last update in September and now. We’d really LOVE to grow this features, so please submit your news here for inclusion in a future update.


Steph Auteri has broken a steady streak of rejections by having two of her pieces recently published: “Benign Neglect” in Romper and “The Fear That Lives Next to My Heart” in Southwest Review.

Jennifer Fliss’s debut flash fiction collection, THE PREDATORY ANIMAL BALL was released December 14, 2021, from Okay Donkey Press.

Gavin Colton’s essay “The Lippy,” published in The Wax Paper, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

Melanie Figg published a new essay, “How to Be a Survivor” – the last of three essays in the Dec. 28, 2021, issue of ENOUGH at The Rumpus. Melanie is doing a lot of online teaching this winter and spring, and always likes to work 1:1 with writers.

Elizabeth Bales Frank published a new essay “HUMBLE FIGURINES” in the Fall 2021 issue of TALKING WRITING

Marianna Marlowe published several new short memoir pieces: “Breasts,” in the December 2021 issue of Narrative Magazine; “Wrinkles,” in the December issue of The Woven Tale Press; and “The Raffle Prize Winner,” in the January/February 2021 issue of Eclectica Magazine. She also, in January 2020, had “Death of a Patriarch” published in Sukoon Magazine, an Arab-themed art and literature journal.

Donna Talarico’s essay “A Prequel to My Sister’s” was published in the Winter 2022 issue of The Writer Disorder. She also appeared on an episode of the Untenured Track podcast (listen here.)
