Dawn Leas, author of A Person Worth Knowing, Take Something When You Go, and I Know When to Keep Quiet, will talk about getting unstuck, and letting the words inside you flow free during our Saturday morning flash sessions. Dawn was kind enough to answer a few questions about her upcoming trip to Lancaster for our annual writing conference:
***
Q: Tell us a little about your involvement this year at HippoCamp.
A: I’m over-the-moon excited to be attending HippoCamp for the first time and presenting a flash session about ways to get unstuck and keep the words flowing onto the page.
Q: What made you decide to participate in HippoCamp this year as a speaker? If you’re a returning speaker, how did your past experiences encourage to want to come back?
A: I’ve wanted to attend HippoCamp for a long time now! My good friend, Vick Mayk, encouraged me to submit a proposal. Without her nudge of encouragement, I probably would have put it off another year, so thank you, Vicki!
Q: What’s going to keep you busy between now and HippoCamp?
A: I’ll be working with 1:1 with clients to help them maintain their writing practices as well as doing manuscript critiques. I also co-teach a weekly workshop with two visual artists for older adults. It’s one of my favorite parts of my week. On a person note, my adult sons are coming to town to celebrate my mom’s 75th birthday, so I’m counting down the days until that. And I’m trying to get outside to walk, run and hike as much as I can!
Q: Since you’ll also be attending the conference, when you’re not wearing your “speaker hat,” what are you most looking forward to learning or doing?
A: There are so many sessions that I want to attend, it’s hard to pick just one! I look forward to seeing friends, meeting new ones, and of course, buying books.
Q: We love introducing Lancaster to attendees. If you live here or have been here before, what would you recommend to other attendees? And, if this will be your first time here, what are you looking forward to?
A: I’m looking forward to visiting Lancaster Central Market – I’ve heard so many good things about it.
