Hippocampus Magazine’s Annual Theme Issue: Special Creative Nonfiction Theme Each Year

Hippocampus Magazine typically accepts and publishes submissions on any topic, as long as it fits in with our motto: memorable creative nonfiction. We enjoy the variety of essays, flash CNF, and memoir excerpts this openness brings to our pages with each new issue.

Once per year, though, we produce a special theme issue. We love putting together a group of stories united by a topic — but there’s still a bit of surprise because contributors often interpret the theme in varying ways.

Many times, writers will use this theme as a challenge: a writing prompt to kick-start something new. Other times, a writer may have something that already fits perfectly with the theme. Either way, we look forward to what our annual theme issue brings to the magazine.

This year’s theme:

LOST
