Social Media Writer (2)

One prong of Hippocampus Magazine’s three-fold mission is to engage with readers and writers of creative nonfiction—that is, to create and participate in conversations with our audience. We’re seeking to fill two new volunteer social media positions.

Our two new social media writers will each focus in a different area, either to create content that encourages visits to our current issue, therefore promoting our contributors and their work, or to create evergreen content related to the literary community, writing life, or our magazine in general.

Responsibilities

  • Position 1 (CREATIVE) – create a Twitter and Facebook post for each work of creative nonfiction and each article per issue (about 10-12 pieces per month).
  • Position 2 (COMMUNITY) – craft 10-12 social media posts (evergreen content) of interest to readers and writers of creative nonfiction.
  • Time commitment: 3-4 hours per month

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Social media writers do not have to have social media management experience, but should be well-versed in writing succinct, engaging copy meant for a general audience.
  • Social media writers must be familiar with Google Drive and comfortable with project management software to communicate and track milestones. (We use Asana and Slack.)
  • This position only involves creating content and does not entail managing social media accounts (posting, responding, etc.).

Term/Details:

  • Six months, initially – renewable from there on a year-long term basis.
  • Social media writers will be listed on masthead under our promotion team heading.
  • This is a volunteer position.
